Fnjóská
Fnjóská – Salmon and arctic char fishing
Fnjóská is one of the largest spring water river in Iceland and holds salmon, arctic char and trouts with salmon and arctic char as the main species during the fishing season. The salmon area on beats 1 to 4 is open from June 18th to September 16th. The pools in Fnjóská are relatively large with a good current and are ideal for fly fishing. Licences are sold as 2 days period from noon to noon where all 4 beats are fished once, one shift for each beat. There are also always quite a few single shifts for sale in between.
Beats 1-4 allow both fly-fishing and spinning until midday on August 1st.
From midday on August 1st, only fly-fishing with a fly rod is permitted for the rest of the season.
Salmon larger than 65 cm must be released or placed in hatchery cages.
Until midday on August 11th, anglers on beats 1-4 can keep one grilse (65 cm or smaller) during each shift.
After that, they have to fly-fish only and must release all grilse and salmon.
Quotas cannot be transferred between rods or shifts.
From midday on August 11th, all grilse and salmon must be released or placed in hatchery cages.
Arctic chars and seatrouts must be released throughout the entire season.
There are no limits on brown trouts, and anglers can keep them.
Humpback salmon or salmon from ocean farms must be killed.
